NIVAS Board member & Interim Director of Nursing, East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust
Gemma qualified as a registered nurse from Kings College London in 1996 and since this time has worked in a number of different clinical areas and organisations gaining experience across the whole of the NHS. It was while working as a Critical Care Outreach Sister that she became interested in IV access and therapy.
Gemma has previously worked as a Nurse Consultant in Vascular Access and was instrumental in setting up both the Vascular Access Service and the Hospital at Home (OPAT) service for East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. Both services aim to provide excellent, innovative, cost effective, safe, efficient care with the patient at the heart of it. Gemma’s present role is as the Interim Director of Nursing at East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust.
She has an MSc in Inter-professional Health and Social Care and is a registered non-medical prescriber. She regularly presents at a local, national and international level and has had a number of articles published in peer reviewed nursing journals through out her career.
