NIVAS would like to introduce Maya Aquino-Guerrero, who has just joined the NIVAS Board.
Maya is currently in post as a Clinical Specialist Lead (CSL) for the Clinical Procurement and Quality Assurance Team of the NHS Supply Chain, supporting innovation, quality, safety, and savings initiatives with a specialist interest in IV therapy and Vascular access. Maya also remains active in the clinical setting, as an Independent Nurse Specialist for Vascular Access and IV Therapy for a number of NHS hospitals under honorary contracts.
Maya has over 2 decades of experience in clinical practice both medical and surgical nursing, in various leadership roles, as a Senior Sister in Orthopaedics, where she became interested and passionate about Vascular Access. Maya started work in a national role a couple of years ago with the Clinical Evaluation Team for the Department of Health and Social Care. Prior to this Maya worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in IV Therapy and Vascular Access and Deputy Service Lead at Frimley Park Hospital NHS FT where she not only placed PICCs and other vascular access devices, she was also instrumental in supporting the development of the IV Access Service.
Maya migrated to the UK from the Philippines in 2002, holding a double degree in Nursing and Physical Therapy. She is qualified as an Independent Non-medical prescriber (NMP) and is currently working on completing her MSc in Healthcare Practice.
She has presented and spoken at national and international conferences and delivered various webinars and speaking engagements in the field of vascular access. Maya is well published in peer-reviewed journals also authored & co-authored reports for the Department of Health and Social Care.
